Fact Sheet: Pollution Prevention

There is a legal obligation to ensure that site activities do not cause pollution. There are many controls that can be implemented to ensure that the storage and transit of oils and chemicals on commercial sites does not cause pollution. A pollution incident can cause environmental damage, loss of reputation, fines and clean-up costs, even if it was accidental. Prevention is better, as a ‘cure’ may not be possible. This fact sheet will explain some of the control measures that can be considered to reduce pollution risk.
